Jamming/improvising ideas for original songs - recording demos.
Playing the odd cover song.
I like songs based around hooks and riffs that are a bit dreamy or moody. Mainly into classic and indie rock and pop, also don't mind some moody electronic stuff.
Like to experiment with sound sometimes and write/record demos to send out into the ether - I have a lot of riff ideas and stuff on tape from over the years as well as garage band demos. Like most guitarists I can come up with a riff out of the blue kind of quick, though putting it all together into a half decent song is sometimes the hardest bit.
Live-wise I've survived open mic nights on my own and in a group (Towradgi Hotel, The Patch, Palm Court Corrimal, Dicey Rileys, Ryans Thirroul, that type of random thing). I've been told I sound ok some nights, but I've also fck'ed up on stage where the song became something else and somehow everybody ended up back where it started.
I don't mind trying to make indie films and music videos either. I've done a couple of dodgy films and one indie music video on 8mm for a local yokel "genius" who is currently missing in action soldier of fortune style. Rob where are you?
Self taught in a lazy way on different instruments from young - but like a lot of people, I went through the 1970/80s NSW government school music education system where I learnt basically nothing. At a young age I was asked to leave the primary school choir due to lack of motivation (the songs sucked).
Basically an indie type. I can read but can't sight, I'm not a slick professional - not that guy.
Good and bad, seems a semitone is a powerful thing.

Influences
Growing up I liked anything sounding moody and catchy from the 1950s 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s.
Pop, AOR, classic rock, glam rock, indie rock, prog rock jazz rock fusion, a bit of folk, outlaw country, disco and classical music.
I like groups such as Rodriguez, Neil Young, Hendrix, Rainbow (anything Blackmore), Jeff Beck, 70s classic rock, NWOBHM (UFO, Judas Priest etc), 80s hard rock/metal (Dokken, Ratt, Michael Schenker Group etc), Detroit garage rock, The Beatles (mainly psychedelic period) as well as Harrison, Lennon and McCartney (Wings) periods. ABBA, can't forget ABBA. Heaps of other stuff too.
