As a student, Carnaby Roberts performed at lunch hour concerts at the University of Pretoria in 1976, and has been performing professionally as a guitar entertainer since 1987. He is an accomplished guitarist and singer, with a wide ranging repertoire to suite a variety of occasions and musical tastes.
His music styles range from folk, blues, bluegrass, rock, ragtime, reggae and popular tunes. His repertoire is based on the requests for music acquired over the years. Music can be adapted to suit most venues and functions from background to dancing music.
During 1987 to 1991, He performed as a freelance musician in the Pretoria/Johannesburg area (South Africa). During this period he was also contracted to perform for six months at the New Union Hotel in Pretoria
During1991 to 1993, he was contracted to perform as resident musician to the following hotels:
Johannesburg Sun and Towers Hotel (1991)
Karos Mount aux Sources Hotel (1992)
Taung Sun and Casino Hotel (1993)
Bay Shore Inn (Richards Bay – 1993)
Middleburg Motel (1993)
In !994 he joined the Silver Creek Mountain Band, a bluegrass band that was formed in 1971 by Double Bass player and vocalist Rod Dry, and is still performing throughout Southern Africa.
During 1997 Carnaby was contracted to appear for 6 months at the Karos Manhattan Hotel in Pretoria
Since 1997, Carnaby has appeared with the Silver Creek Mountain Band and been actively teaching the guitar, creating an extensive series of Windows based, interactive guitar courses. He was an active member of Buskers music club in Johannesburg from 1987 to 1992, and founded Minstrels Music Club in Pretoria in 2000
