Lead Guitar, Drums, Keyboard.ABOUT
Hello everyone.
I'm forming an original folk rock, folk and rock 'n' roll indie band. The sound will be acoustic and upbeat. Think Paul Simon, Cat Stevens and some of the Mumford & Sons vibe. The band name is Observer Effect. Looking forward to speaking with you if you think it sounds like something you'd be into.
General goals of the band:
1. Have fun and live out music dreams in some 'small' way
2. Record a great album, produce a couple of indie music videos and create the band's online presence.
3. Play limited gigs around Brisbane and work up through the Festival circuit starting small and local until we can get accepted to the bigger, national ones.
4. Build an online following and promote through social media etc - already started on Twitter, 800 followers so far - https://twitter.com/ObserverEffect_
5. See what can be accomplished branding and fan-base building wise while keeping the 'work' load contained into that of a passionate hobby.
What would the commitment be?
Two or three practice sessions per month on weekends to start with plus individually learning and developing the songs at home. More if we want to but that's the initial benchmark.
Who would this suit?
Well, I'm a 32 year old Father of two with my own business. I'm thinking that band members would be between 25 and 45 - (this will be family friendly) and gender doesn't matter... as long as you have one :-) If you want to be in a band that's going for a major record deal or is gigging twice a week and touring nationally... this is probably not the one.
Is this a money making band?
Making money is not the main goal here. Living out musical dreams is. There will be some money generated from sales and gigging but going for the money straight off is really a cover band thing... not the intention of this band.
What stage is the band at currently?
I am the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter. I can also play some keys. I have about 16 songs ready to go. I now need 3 other musicians to make up the core band. I have plenty of muso contacts in Brisbane who would be able to add additional instruments to the album song by song - such as strings or brass for example.
What instruments will comprise the core band?
Lead singer, rhythm guitar and keys (me).
Looking for:
Lead guitarist - acoustic lead guitar, other instruments such as banjo or ukulele etc would be great - singing backing vocals would be a bonus.
Drummer - singing backing vocals would be a bonus.
Upright bass/bass guitar - Ability to play both would be great, of the two instruments upright bass is preferred. Blues and rock 'n' roll experience is probably needed. Bowing technique would be a bonus. Singing backing vocals would be a bonus.
Who am I?
My name's Oliver Braithwaite. I'm from near Oxford in the UK originally and now live in the Brisbane Northern suburbs. Musically, I've played in bands back in the UK and recorded three albums - one in a band and two solo. I was signed to a Brisbane Indie Label in my early twenties but pulled out because I had other things I wanted to commit to back then. I am the founder and CEO of Stars & Catz Music Teacher Network so I'm good with the internet and social media marketing, which I would apply to the band.
Thanks.
