SEEKING
Band to Join, Bass Guitar, Drums, Keyboard, Piano, Flute.ABOUT
I’m a serious hobbyist musician, interested in making music with similarly minded and capable local musicians who have sober habits and prefer to avoid damaging their hearing. Though I have always had very high aspirations about the quality of the music that I want to play, I have never had delusions about making a career of it. Having retired at the end of 2020 from a career as an academic economist, I am at last in a position to devote a lot of time to music.
I’d be delighted to do music with capable musicians of any age, and unlike most who started out as long ago as I did, I’ve kept trying to develop as a musician and I practice seriously most days. Though I mostly play guitar/guitar synth, I greatly enjoy playing bass and do a lot of my music writing at the piano. I also play drums, and retirement has given me the opportunity to get time to practice regularly at last. My music room is very well equipped and (since I don't havee a 'Don't even breathe on it' attitude) is ready to go for rehearsal and recording by a full band.
Over the years I have played classic rock, blues, prog rock, jazz, theatre music and pop. The music that I have written so far is technically challenging, highly melodic instrumental rock but many of the tunes are really ‘songs without words’, awaiting lyrics. I write using Guitar Pro (the audio files are outputs from my scores) and, ideally, I would like to make music with others who can read/notate rather than who work by jamming. During 2016-17 I rehearsed my music with drummer Laurie Keating, with the other parts from backing tracks, but we were unable to recruit a suitable bass player or keyboardist, so I switched from ‘band’ to ‘musician’ here to see what other possibilities there might be. Currently, I play a two-hour solo set using backing tracks, consisting of my own material and covers of classics by artists such as Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Santana and Larry Carlton. Live recordings of some of my originals can be heard at https://soundcloud.com/peter-earl-883815710.
