Band to Join, Bass Guitar, Drums, Keyboard, Piano, Flute.ABOUT
II’m a serious hobbyist musician hoping to gett back into making music socially, with similarly minded and capable local musicians who have sober habits and prefer to avoid damaging their hearing.
Most of the tracks that I have uploaded (many of which are better viewed not as instrumentals but as ‘songs awaiting words’) were written around 2014-2016 using Guitar Pro socring software and are Guitar Pro’s renditions of my scores. The two videos were recored with the aid of backing tracks from three of these scores, with Laurie Keating providing live drums, around 2016-2017. At the time, we couldn’t find suitable musicians to put a complete band together and eventually we gave up. Academic work and COVID then got in the way of me doing more than regularly pratising. Now that I am retired ,I am at last in a position to devote a lot of time to music, with musicians of any age.
I am interested in doing: having some serious fun playing melodic, harmonically interesting music initially purely for the challenge of putting a good repertoire together and recording it, ideally with gigs following if suitable venues can be found. Though I am primarily a guitarist, I am not averse to the idea of a line up involving a second lead guitarist instead of a keyboard play, for I could either play keyboard parts myself or imitate them via my guitar synth. I am also open to the idea of keeping things simple via some kind of ‘power trio’. I am leaving the vocalist question until instruments are in place (and I’m prepared to do some singing).
I don’t want to do any of the following: play in a typical ‘weddings, parties, amything’ or ‘Aussie pub rock’ covers band, work with musicians who smoke, are alcohol-centred or who play in ‘worship’ bands, or are into conspiracy theories, Trump, and the ideas of Jordan Peterson.

My music collection runs from ABBA to Zappa, but my favourite areas are:

Classic UK rock bands (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Bad Company, Queen)
Fusion guitarists (such as Al Di Meola, Allan Holdswoorth, Pat Metheny, Lee RitenourFrank Gambale, and Tommy Emmanuel’s electric albums)
Irish blues/rock guitarists (Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore)
Neoclassical metal (Yngwie Malmsteen’s instrumental work, Vinnie Moore)
Steely Dan, 10CC

EQUIPMENT
My rumpus room is set up with professional-grade gear to rehearse and record guitars, bass, keyborads and electronic drums (Roland TD17 KVX) at ear- and neighbour-firendly volumes feeding directly into Presonus digital mixer to a Mac (running Logic and Studio Live DAWs) or Zoom R24. As well as using conventional guitars and amp-modelling/multieffects boards, I use Roland-ready guitars to drive Boss SY-1000 and GM-800 guitar synths.
