ABOUT

QSHBA is a community based organisation which creates and then supports different bands. Currently we have Concert Bands, Marching Bands, a Brass Band, Woodwind Bands, a Rock Band, a Drum Corps and a Jazz Band.

QSHBA is also a teaching organisation and thus provides tuition to interested persons of all ages and gender. Some instruments are available for loan. All uniforms and print resources are provide on loan for free.

Some of the preloaded fields on the website do not adequately describe our organisation, so:

Musicians wanted should also include : Cornet, Flugal Horn, Alto Horn, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Eb bass tuba, Bb Bass Tuba, Marching percussion as well as Concert percussion.

Concert bands:
Queensland Show Band - an avant-garde Brass Band which includes vocals and electronic instruments. Repertoire is a mix of traditional and contemporary rock, pop, jazz and, swing. Great for general concerts as well as functions. For Defence Force organizations, serving or ex-serving, QSB has the music and knows the drill.

Adult starters' Band - A woodwind/brass/percussion band for adult beginners and, people who are returning to banding are several years away from banding. Adults learning 2nd or 3rd instruments also play here.

Bayside Youth Band(s) - Woodwind/brass/percussion/electro beginner bands. Members are allocated to a particular BYB, according to performance level e.g. very beginner to advanced. Some adult members also play in this band for extra chop time.

Jazz and Rock Bands -Two different bands dedicated to each genre.

Marching Bands:
Queensland Light Horse Heritage Band - The flagship marching band of QSHBA. This band is uniformed in WW1 Queensland Light Horse uniform. Repertoire, which is selected to suit the occasion, encompasses Boer War 2, WW1, WW2, Malaysia/Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, Timor, to current Middle East.

Drum Corps - all percussion band which includes standard marching, displays and, supports our other marching bands.

BYB and Adult Starters' Band also participate in marching.

Some times, several of these bands play at the same concert. Our bands do enjoy gigs that require an overnight stay away from home. Our repertoire is very diverse and, has a heavy lean towards Australian music.

Rehearsals for each band are once per week however, many QSHBA members, sit-in and also perform, with more than one group. Tutorial sessions are also available.

Gigs are as required and, when members are available. Generally once a month.
