ABOUT

Hey, I'm Rylan Chronic and I reside in Ballarat. For me the definition of a musician is a multi dimensional field of knowledge that exists on a spectrum...knowing your strengths is important and acknowledging where you may not feel you have the passion to apply yourself to that particular area of personal interests in the cast field of music and pushing things don't click just waste energy. I have a background in live performance and have an understanding of the fundamentals of the acoustic instrument side of things. My strengths in a live or studio settings are vocals and drums. I write and compose, arrange my own music. In the past year I have developed a love for analogue synths and really having a good time with their unique sequencing abilities regularly. I don't shy away from using MIDI and I also see that in certain areas of music loops and samples can be successfully applied depending on genre, I find a lot of joy in creating digital soundscapes that way.I also have training as a DJ.
As I have progressed and built up some gear to access the ability to track my own music etc I have found that my deep passion and strength lies in studio sound engineering and production. I have a very focused mindset when it comes to the science of sound, and I'm the larger scale studios I've had the opportunity and honour of working with industry professionals who have been wonderful mentors. One things I've learnt is that the more you learn, you more you realise you don't know. That's my overview and an insight so far into my passion.

EQUIPMENT

I use Msc operating systems and an applying myself to Pro Tools as my main DAW. I have a handle on the basics of Ableton.
I still have a fairly basic interface with the scarlet pro. It gets a bad rap but price point doesn't always guarantee a great sound. I really enjoy the fast preamp that creates a warm sound. The person creating it does the work. I use a Focusrite condenser microphone, headphone monitors as well as as well as a fairly cheap over head condenser to pick up something I may have missed. I also use KRK studio monitors with DJ monitor stands.

In far as dynamic mics I use them a lot to play around with getting the drums tracking measured correctly. I'm a mish mash of having and area with fundamental instruments as well as my digital technology. The drumkit I find suits me best is Tama.
As reductant as modern music has made some equipment I have a fairly standard amplifier for electric guitar. And too many leads haha. Stock standard electric and acoustic guitars for songwriting.
I have two keyboards. The cool one is a 1980's Yamaha but I enjoy writing on UDISK keyboard for its enhancement on weighted keys
I have a few synths. A Technics 1983 K350. A Korg Modular Bass synth and my favourite the Korg volca analogue patch synth which creates some really impressive sequences.
I have a basic Launchkey MIDI controller which serves me well.
That's the equipment that serves me but no doubt there's more synths I'll start chasing in the future...and other interesting gear.
