Personally, I listen to just about everything (country and CCM leaves me cold though), and lean towards more modern tunes, or modern takes on classic tunes.
I'm keen to play groove-based stuff that makes people move. Influences include:
* stanky funk (from Stevie Wonder to the Motet and Lettuce)
* dirty blues (from Albert King to Eric Gales and Gary Clark Jr.)
* groove-based jazz (from Miles to Makaya Mcraven to the Comet is Coming)
* Indie, blues and riff-driven rock (Jimi to the Cruel Sea to Audioslave)
* EDM (so much good stuff here that makes you wanna move)
