ABOUT

I am a 29-year-old guitar player and singer originally from Italy and I recently moved to Sydney to study (I'm doing a PhD in artificial intelligence). I started playing guitar and singing when I was 16 and it's been a major part of my life since then. I never played professionally, but I've had various bands in recent years (mostly covers and a few original tracks) with friends and colleagues and we played a few gigs around Italy, mainly in our hometowns.

I mostly play rhythm and acoustic guitar, and I've recently started to practice lead guitar and some blues and jazz. I've been playing for ages but I've never been obsessed with techniques and I've never taken lessons, so I'm not super skilled when it comes to advanced techniques or theory, though I'm trying to get better :)

I started singing to accompany my guitar practice but I kept practicing and getting better at it and recently started taking proper singing lessons.

Influences

My earliest influences were grunge and alternative rock bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Hole, Placebo, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Weezer, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age to name a few.

I've also been majorly influenced by punk rock: some of my favourite bands include NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise and The Offspring. Pop punk is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I'll still listen to the likes of Blink 182, Green Day or Sum 41 every now and then :)

I used to be a huge metal fan when I was a teenager, but I've gradually lost interest in the genre, though I still maintain it as an influence. Some metal bands I still listen to include Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down and Slipknot.

Recently, I've moved into slightly more experimental and electronic rock. During the last couple of years I've been obsessed with Radiohead, Gorillaz and Tame Impala, and I've listened to a fair amount of electronic music (The Prodigy, Soulwax, Fatboy Slim, LCD Soundsystem, Chemical brothers, Justice, Daft Punk etc.). I also very recently started getting into jazz and blues, though I'm still at the early stages of discovering these genres!

EQUIPMENT

Most of my equipment, unfortunately, is in Italy.

I got a nice acoustic guitar here in Sydney (Gilman GA12GE) and I plan to get an electric and an amplifier as soon as I find a more stable accommodation!
