SINGING MUG WITH THE COVERS BUG
Ahoy all,
I'm Mike, a 37-year-old graphic designer, motoring journalist, and dad of a toddler and an imminent newborn (alarm bells!) in the outer Eastern 'burbs of Melbourne.
I used to sing on and off in fairly casual cover bands when I was younger - parties, footy clubs, etc - and I've realised lately that I'd like to give it another go. Call it a midlife crisis, since I don't plan to live to ????.
I don't have any pub experience, but I'm no stranger to audiences. I also don't know the first thing about the business aspects of the performance trade, but I'm prepared to learn from a good partner.
I'm not looking to play multiple nights every single week. I'm only after a handful of gigs per month. I also travel occasionally for work, but I'll try to keep that from interfering with gigs.
I'm into most types of band-powered music (classic rock, pop rock, metal, grunge, today's indie tunes, etc), but I think vocally I'm best with the classic Top 40 hits and the like. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s is where I'm thinking.
I'm keen on a duo, but I don't play any instruments so this might not be ideal. Perhaps a trio..?
My graphic design and journalism experience might also be of use, too? Poster art, pushy (or gushingly diplomatic) letters to venue managers, etc...
Anyway, I realise this doesn't sound like an ideal scenario, but if it sounds like it could work for you, get in touch!
I'm not desperate for work - which I guess is why I can afford to sound a bit picky here - but I'd love to make a real go of something with the right partner/s.
